College Consultants of Colorado Join Forces with Denver Public Schools for College Application Days
1200 Seniors Will Apply to College Over a 3-Day Period
Denver, Colorado: October is College & Career Readiness Month and starting October 11, 2018 at the PPA Event Center in Denver, Denver Public Schools will be hosting their annual College Access for All Events. Started in the Fall of 2014, this program has nearly doubled every year. Recent numbers indicate upwards of 1200 DPS students are registered to participate in this historic program. Applying to college can be a daunting task and the goal is to have as many seniors finish their application as is humanly possible. Independent Educational Consultants from College Consultants of Colorado (CCC) will be helping to coordinate and direct approximately 30-40 additional adult volunteers.
Independent Educational Consultants strive to help students and families navigate the complex college application process and generally work with students individually or in small groups. This will be CCC’s 2nd year volunteering for this event.
The goals of DPS Application Days are to:
- Have each senior complete at least one college application (this may be a 4-year, 2-year and/or tech school application)
- 4-year college application waiver codes will be available from Colorado colleges and universities present at the event.
- Time permitting, CCC volunteers will discuss next steps to enrollment, such as essays, letters of recommendation and financial aid assistance.
- Student will leave with a College Resource Guide as well as an “exit” form to aid in any final steps to completing their application(s).
- School Counselors will also be provided with a Resource Guide to provide support to their students after the event is over.

Preparing Students for College and Career Success: A Diploma of Possibility. DPS’ vision that Every Child Succeeds starts with the belief that all students, from the very first day they walk into a DPS school, can achieve at the highest levels and ultimately cross the graduation stage ready for college, careers and life. One of the five goals in the district’s strategic plan — the Denver Plan 2020 — is to ensure our students graduate ready for college and career through rigorous coursework and high standards.
DPS sets high expectations in a challenging environment, so students are motivated to achieve more as they progress in their education. We inspire, challenge and empower our students to embrace education as an adventure to explore a variety of paths to exciting destinations, and to forge their own futures. Together with our community, we are redesigning the high school experience.
